Batteries Dead?

And so it happens, we wake up one day and no longer recognize ourselves in the mirror. Time has passed and our blessings have become obligations, we are walking through the day like robots. Exhaustion in the morning when we wake up, exhaustion at night when we lay down. Dread.... Life looks great, the dream 9-5, beautiful kids, friends and family-we even have wonderful neighbors and cookouts.. Scheduled events repeat in our heads as timers go off in the background. We run... we run and run until we forget we are running and so it happens.. we catch a glimpse of ourselves in the reflection in the store front running between tasks. We stop for a moment because that is all we believe that we have to spare.

We make our way through the store taking care to remember the needs of everyone and everything in our over processed brain with that glimpse a daunting memory chasing our attention throughout the rest of the day.

We make our way to our job on time with a list of tasks waiting for us from every day, just the same as every day and the same as every year before. A job that resembles our memory of us as well as that reflection of the stranger in the store front with your list in hand.

We scramble, we scramble to make sure that more daunting responsibilities are being met. Where are we on those lists? Is it lunchtime already because at lunch there are other responsibilities waiting for us that don’t belong to us either. Lunch is over and we drive back to work not remembering the drive at all because we are haunted by the robotic subconscious that has been here so many times before that it is a code in the programming of our minds now. Me? Who am I?

We grab the next best thing, which is anything at all, to eat because even though we may not be hungry we know that we need to keep our mouths shut to prevent us from saying what we really mean for the rest of the day. It is a moment of satisfaction, a selfish greedy fulfilling moment in time that we will full.

We fill overfull though and our responsibilities remind us to stay uncomfortable and get through the day without compliant-like the complaints that surround us and wait to correct all of our “spare time” intentions.

Who was that lady in the reflection?

And the list goes on and the days go on and the moments go on and year after year another glimpse at a reflection we have been avoiding and never recognize when avoidance has come to a head.

Sound familiar?

Sometimes we can get so caught up in “doing all the right things” that we forget that we are one of those right things.

We are the spice that gives the recipe flavor and desire to nourish the body yet, we leave it all out and forget all about it as we fulfill the desires of our loved ones and even not our loved ones.

The clock ticks and we watch it like a ravenous stalker begging to get in, begging to fulfil our only guilty pleasure remaining-silence. Shut down. Crawling into our unmade beds at night after tucking everyone else into their fresh beds for the night.

I know you have heard that we cannot pour from an empty cup. Hearing it, we jump up and down and agree and swear that we will not go on like this any longer. Yet, another day passes and another year passes and here we are-forgotten dreams, unrecognize-able reflections.

God did not design us to live like this.. He did not give us these beautiful blessings to only fulfill them, they are there to fulfill us too.

We are to be living examples of Gods goodness and grace to these blessings around us. Not just shuffling through this zombie like posture to make everyone around us happy.

Working a job that you are over qualified for, underpaid for, not fulfilled any longer in (is that because of you though or is this true, are you supposed to be doing something else) because we are afraid, we are afraid to check our kids in to school “TARDY”, we are afraid of not making money because we are not at this job that treats us horribly and uses up the lil existence that we have left. We are not supposed to be answering every whim our children create,- we are supposed to teach them how to go after their own whims-through our example of meeting ours.

God gave us a purpose and it is our responsibility to teach our children and loved ones that it is true and how it is done. Seriously, would you want your daughter to mimick your lifestyle when she grows up, when she becomes a Mom? Would you want your son to expect the same from a wife?

Do you honestly believe that this is what God has for you?

I get it, you are seriously trying to do the right things. Who can fault you for that? For being selfless and giving. For giving yourself away so your loved ones don’t have to do without.

You are a ROCKSTAR,, you are absolutely beautiful and I know that God must love you so much and I know that He sees that beautiful heart of yours but…

God commands you to guard your own heart, He commands you to treat your body like a temple and He wants you to know that He is your source. He makes a way no matter how fast or slow you are running.

God says, in Matthew 11:28-30 (New International Version)

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

He says this because He WANTS you to trust Him. He doesn’t want you to do this alone! Are you laying it at His feet and trusting Him with your life and the life of those you love? Are you honoring the Sabbath Day as a day of rest, a day to honor God? If He can create the whole wide world in 6 days and rest on the 7th, then what can He not do for you?

Take a closer look my dear, take time to pray and hand over those heavy burdens to your Father.

The next time you catch your reflection, it should be so filled with Gods love that you have to put your sunglasses on because the light is shining so bright!!!

Always praying for you and I cannot wait to hear your “glow up” story!!!
